The newly discovered satellite of Pluto, Charon, shows very interesting features. It is likely to be tidally locked and it is established that the total angular momentum of this system is very similar to the one required for a rotational break-up of an initial fluid planet. Moreover, such an origin is greatly supported by the now known value of the mass-ratio of Pluto to Charon and by a subsequent tidal evolution to the synchronous state.
