Correlations between various atomic and molecular species which are likely to coexist in regions shielded from ultraviolet radiation are derived from observations of diffuse clouds. Results are presented for the column densities of neutral sodium and neutral carbon as a function of molecular hydrogen and carbon monoxide column densities. Both N(Na1) and N(C1) vary linearly with N(H2) for directions with N(H2) greater than 10 to the 19th per cu cm. A nearly linear relationship also exists between N(Na1) and N(CO). Standard atomic and molecular processes occurring in the gas phase are shown to describe adequately the observations.
