Scientific paper

Observational techniques for astrophysical spectroscopy in the wavelength region between 500 and 20,000 A are reviewed. Attention is given to spectrophotometry, photometry, photoelectric scanning, interferometry and spectrometry. Particular consideration is allotted to secondary electron conduction vidicons and silicon intensifier target vidicons. The detection of elemental abundances in the interstellar medium also receives mention.
