Scientific paper
The paper reviews the state of astrophysical observations in the ultraviolet, giving attention to the transmissivity of the earth's atmosphere, absorption and extinction in interstellar space, and instruments on board the satellites OAO-2, OAO-3, TD-1A, and ANS. Some examples of the type of data obtained are discussed, including observations of molecular hydrogen and the distribution of ultraviolet energy in stellar spectra. The increase of the background radiation at the position of the noon Atlantic anomaly is discussed.
