The ESSENCE supernova survey is a 6-year program on the CTIO 4-m telescope to discover and study 200 Type Ia supernovae from 0.2 < z < 0.8 to measure the dark energy currently accelerating the expansion of our Universe. ESSENCE will address the central cosmological question now confronting us: is dark energy consistent with a cosmological constant or is it something else entirely? Through careful calibration of the telescope and detector system and detailed investigation and simulation of experimental systematics, ESSENCE will achieve a 10% measurement of the dark energy equation-of-state parameter, w. We present here the cosmological measurements from the three-year results of the ESSENCE survey and conclude with discussions regarding the future of supernova cosmology.
