The Kepler mission will provide a vast improvement in the characterization of extrasolar planetary systems, and in addition give a dramatic increase in the data available for asteroseismology. The present paper gives a brief overview of the mission, emphasizing the asteroseismic aspects, and with references to more detailed presentations.
