Certain problems in astronomical data analysis do not lend themselves to algorithmic solutions. Pattern recognition and classification problems are two examples. The use of artificial neural networks in the solution of such problems provides an alternative approach. We are developing Neural Network Prototyping Package within the IRAF environment to provide the astronomical community with a powerful tool for solving problems of this sort.
