The present investigation of the charge exchange-mediated absorption of the solar wind by the Martian atmosphere notes that the H(+) + O yields H + O(+) can result in significant depletion of the solar wind in a small region above subsolar space. The He(+) ions created by charge exchange have no function in the total He(+) outflow at Mars. A comparison is conducted between the flux of O(+) ions with Phobos 2 data.
