The paper discusses cases where transient X-ray sources emitting less than 1 keV power have been detected and could not be associated with X-ray sources observed in the energy range above 2 keV. Observations from a spinning rocket are reported in which four variable sources were detected. Analysis shows them to be statistically significant and transient in the sense that they are bright for a few minutes but almost disappear for other periods. The errors in the experiment were too large to identify the soft X-ray source with any known astronomical object.
