High-resolution radio maps are presented and interpreted for the distributions of total and polarized radiation from the radio source 3C 58 at wavelengths of 6, 21, and 50 cm. The maps reveal considerable fine structure in both total and polarized emission, but no sign of the shell structure characteristic of most supernova remnants or the double structure commonly observed in extragalactic objects. The percentage polarizations are found to have typical values of 25% at 6 cm, 15% at 21 cm, and 2% at 50 cm. Examination of flux-density measurements between 408 and 15 GHz indicates that the integrated emission spectrum is very flat and may be represented by a power law with spectral index of -0.09 from 38 MHz to 15 GHz. The three maps are intercompared to determine the spectral-index, rotation-measure, magnetic-field, and depolarization distributions. The nature of 3C 58 is considered, and it is concluded that this source is most likely a galactic supernova remnant at a distance of roughly 8 kpc. Similarities between the radio properties of the Crab Nebula and 3C 58 are discussed.
