The assumption that an 'envelope ionization mechanism' such as the 'bump mechanism' is the basic destabilizing agent for the Beta-Cephei stars is discussed. The relationship between the luminosity effective temperature and the period luminosity is mathematically calculated with respect to the depth in the envelope of the driving region. Attention is given to changes in radiation pressure as a function of the aforementioned relationship and its effect on the slope of the instability strip of the H-R diagram is noted. Conclusions based on detailed calculations show that radiation pressure is important in the envelopes of the Beta-Cephei stars and that it contributes significantly to the driving of pulsations.
