One important effect of shock fronts of colliding winds in massive binaries is the production of X-rays, so making the binaries a new category of X-ray binaries. Another important effect is to inhibit mass exchange between the components, thereby altering the course of evolution. The case B evolution of a 40 Msolar+30 Msolar system was followed both with and without a shock front, and it was found that the period became much shorter, the total mass much smaller, with than without the shock.
