A 23 GHz (1.3 cm) radio map of M82 shows a new component of extended, high-frequency radio emission within about 2 kpc of the M82 nucleus, but outside the boundaries of the centimeter radio source mapped by Kronberg and Wilkinson. When combined with the upper limit for the integrated free-free emission from M82 at 87 GHz, this result sets an upper limit to the amount of thermally emitting gas which is obscured in the nucleus of M82. The new extended component in M82 must have a flat radio spectrum, that is, it is mostly thermal radiation. A firm upper limit to radio emission in the outer arms of M82 has also been established.
