Polarimetric observations of lunar surface regions and polarization measurements of lunar samples are statistically analyzed. The measurements were performed at the Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory. The dependence of the degree of polarization on the phase angle is investigated. It is shown that almost all of the polarimetric properties of the lunar sample differ from the analogous properties of the lunar surface. The widely accepted view that the polarization properties of the lunar surface material are identical to those of lunar powder samples is a consequence of an incorrect technique for comparing polarimetric values.
