These calculations are motivated by the recent observation of a high Be-9 abundance in a very metal poor star and the measurement of a key reaction rate for Be-9 synthesis. We study Be-9 production within the nonuniform density model of big bang nucleosynthesis: regions of both high and low density with a nonstandard n/p ratio may have emerged out after the quark-hadron phase transition leading to nonconventional nucleosynthesis. In addition to the elements produced in the standard model (SM), Be-9 may be significantly produced. We look for the conditions that would lead to a high Be-9 abundance, as recent observations indicate that Be-9 primordial abundance may be higher than expected in the SM of big bang nucleosynthesis.
