A technique is described for dual-beam radio observations of objects extending over several units of beam separation, which are performed at a wavelength of 2.8 cm under meteorological conditions that would be totally unacceptable for a conventional single-beam system. The method of data analysis is outlined, and the capabilities and limitations of the dual-beam technique are examined. Examples of applications of this technique to extragalactic radio sources, a supernova remnant, and the Galactic center are provided. A further development of the technique with the use of a multibeam system is also discussed. It is noted that the dynamic range of observations made with the dual-beam technique is limited primarily by dissimilarities in the detailed shape of each beam and its sidelobes.
