Neutral composition data based on Vertical-6 measurements are used to develop a theoretical model of the ionoswhere composition in the approximation of a photochemical equilibrium for the height range 130-230 km. The ion concentration profiles predicted by the model are compared against the ion concentrations measured in the same experiment. Calculated results obtained for O+, O+(2D), O+(2P), O2+, O2+(4Pi), N2+, N+, NO+, and He+ ions are found to be in good agreement with experimental data.
