The intensities of the molecular hydrogen H2 υ = 1-0 S(1) line, and the Brγ line of atomic hydrogen as well as the K magnitude have been observed in 21 IRAS galaxies. The sample includes type 1 and type 2 Seyferts, LINERs, H II region galaxies, and interacting galaxies. Their IR luminosities range from 5×108to 1012L_sun;. It is found that, relative to the far-infrared luminosity, both the K luminosities and the intensities of molecular hydrogen emission in the AGN galaxies are higher than in the non-AGNs. Relative to braod-band K flux, the H II region galaxies show enhanced Brγ emission. Within any galaxy type, there is evidence that the H2 emitting region extends over 1 kpc or more from the nucleus.
