Total Hα and far ultraviolet (2000 Å) fluxes are available for 31 late-type galaxies. The Lyman continuum to far UV luminosity ratio, obtained after correction for extinction and loss of ionizing photons, is compared to model predictions established for different choices of the Initial Mass Function (IMF). The IMF for massive stars does not vary much from galaxy to galaxy. The power-law index has a formal dispersion of ±0.25 in a subset of 17 Sbc, Sc galaxies. The average absolute value of this index is consistent with most of the existing Field Star IMF determinations. Uncertainties prevent any firm conclusion to be reached about a possible trend with morphological types.
