Long-slit and direct-image observations of the nucleus of the Seyfert 1.5 galaxy NGC 7469 are presented. They reveal the presence of a large number of H II region complexes, as well as the presence of two knots contained in an exponential disk of gas clouds in rotation about, and photoionized by, the nuclear continuum source. Velocity and intensity profile asymmetries are obtained and shown to be at least partially the result of spiral arms within the central kiloparsec. The gas clouds making up the disk have a significant velocity dispersion perpendicular to the disk which may enhance star formation through cloud-cloud collisions. Evidence suggests that the gas may have a small net radially inward velocity of about 10 km/s. This estimated accretion rate appears sufficient to maintain the nonthermal luminosity produced by the central supermassive compact object.
