Measurements of H I (121.6 nm) and He I (58.4 nm) resonance emission of the interplanetary gas have been obtained during the interplanetary cruise of Venera 11 and 12 spacecraft in 1978 - 1979 with an EUV spectrophotometer. Observations performed with the same instruments of H and He in the upper atmosphere of Venus during the flyby yielded the product of the calibration factor of the instrument by the exciting solar flux, allowing to measure with a minimal uncertainty the density of interstellar neutral hydrogen (nH = 0.065±0.010 cm-3) and helium (nHe = 0.0010±0.0045 cm-3) far from the sun but inside the heliopause. These results are discussed in terms of local interstellar medium ionization state.
