Theoretical flux profiles as a function of galactic longitude and latitude are calculated for the diffuse 511 keV and 1809 keV emissions (due to positron annihilation and Al-26 decay, respectively) that are observed in our Galaxy. These calculations are made by assuming plausible galactic distributions for the underlying sources of positrons and Al-26. Comparison of the results to the recent OSSE observations of the 511 keV line favors an old stellar population at the origin of the positrons, in agreement with threoretical expectations. As for the Al-26 emission, it is argued that the most plausible sources are young objects, that can best be traced by the presence of features in the detected flux profiles, corresponding to the position of spiral arms. The preliminary COMPTEL results seem indeed to show such behavior.
