Scientific paper

Reticon spectroscoy at 50 and 100 A/mm and Stromgren uvby photometry are used to determine Teff, log g and V sin i for a sample of stars from the Luminous Stars in the Northern Milky Way catalogue and several 'faint blue star' catalogues. Four hot subdwarfs (and one probable hot subdwarf) are discovered, two of them helium-rich. Four other stars, apparently of Population I, are found to be helium-rich and three stars, including two of the helium-rich stars, appear to have distances from the galactic plane greater than 4 kpc.
