While the Martian surface has been scrutinized for decades by a variety of imaging and spectroscopic techniques, sub-surface investigations remained limited to indirect studies. Direct observations of sub-surface structures were made possible with the arrival of MEX and MRO missions with their onboard low frequency radars. Here, we report on our method to extract surface reflectivity from the MARSIS (MEX) dataset. The wave amplitude of the surface returns (surface echo) is directly linked to the dielectric constant of the shallow subsurface, however many effects affect this surface echo power. In this report, we describe our work on correcting these effects, which mainly are: attenuation of the electromagnetic waves through the ionosphere, range attenuation and scattering by surface roughness. As a result, we build the first global reflectivity map at wavelength of 60-100 m and compare it to other MARSIS measurements of the surface reflectivity. Finally, we will give geophysical interpretations of some of observed features.
