We used the Millennium Simulation dark matter (sub-)halo catalogs to create catalogs of model Lyman Alpha Emitting galaxies (LAE) at z=3.1 to quantify the properties of their descendants. We created several models by selecting the (sub-)halos at z=3.1 to match the median dark matter mass and number density reported by Gawiser et al. (2007, ApJ 671,278). By following the merger trees we were able to obtain the mass distribution of the descendant (sub-)halos and to differentiate the results between satellites and centrals. Our results show that LAEs have z=0 descendants with a median mass of 1012 Msun which agrees with the results of Gawiser et al. 91% of LAE descendants around 1012 Msun are central galaxies within their halos, leading to the conclusion that Milky Way type galaxies are typical descendants of LAEs. The median descendant mass is robust to various methods of age determination but could vary by a factor of two to three due to uncertainties in the clustering analysis, which determined the LAE median mass. We acknowledge funding support from NASA (HST-AR-11253.01-A), DOE (DE-FG02-08ER41561), and NSF (AST-0807570).
