The papers in this volume present results for a variety of recent stellar and galactic observations, discuss some models of unusual astrophysical phenomena, and provide status reports on a number of European astronomical projects. Topics include a review of developments in X-ray astronomy, synthesis observations of extragalactic radio sources, an analysis of millimeter emissions from active galaxies, gravitational imaging by elliptical galaxies, the cosmic background radiation spectrum between 3 mm and 800 microns, radio observations of young supernova remnants, the nature of emission-line stars, and nonexplosive formation of neutron stars from accreting white dwarfs. Other papers deal with a model for pulsed emission by oblique magnetic rotators, a mass-transfer model of dwarf novae, evolutionary calculations of massive close binaries, the status of UV and IR astronomical projects in Europe, and developments in the theory of galaxy formation.
