The results of spectroscopic observations of Io made possible with an
image-tube spectrograph are reported. The equipment, data treatment, and
results are described. Observation indicates that neutral calcium is
contained in the atmosphere of Io and that Io is surrounded by a cloud
of sodium and possibly calcium.
