Scientific paper
Astronomical photography techniques and their scientific applications are examined. The history of the development of astronomical photography is reviewed. Unsharp masking, image subtraction, photographic amplification, and image combination methods are considered. Scientific discoveries which were made with photographs and the development of color astronomical photography are discussed.
