A program of research on Halley's comet from the Earth was designed to serve as a regional part of international Halley watch (IHW). The program calls for astronomical observations of Halley's comet to be carried out at 17 observatories and astrophysical observations at 15 observatories. Two specialized stations equipped with identical instruments are planned. One of these will be located on Mt. Maydanak in Uzbekistan; the second will be placed in Bolivia in the city of Tarija. Sixty-centimeter reflectors will be installed at these stations, equipped with photoelectric, spectral and polarimetric instruments.
