The problem of proton decay is discussed in the framework of the minimum SU(5) model and the concepts of supergravity and supersymmetry. Supersymmetry models have predicted proton decay time to be of the order of 10 to the 31st to 10 to the 32nd years, i.e., within the limits of present-day experimental possibilities. Recent experiments on the detection of proton decay are examined, with particular emphasis on the IMB experiment.
