A preliminary survey of CO emission from the galactic plane is reported. The gas clouds throughout the Galaxy were randomly sampled. The distribution of CO emission is discussed, taking into account the galactic nucleus and the galactic disk. Outside the galactic nucleus a close correspondence is observed between the surface density of H II regions, gamma-ray emission, and the CO emission. Attention is given to the molecular-hydrogen density and the temperature in the Galaxy.
