Results are presented for photographic observations of BL Lac which were made over a 16-month period to obtain a more precise determination of the object's variability. Variations of one magnitude per day and 0.25 magnitude in three hours were observed. Previously reported variations with a time scale of one day or less are reviewed. It is concluded that variations of two magnitudes per day are well established. This corresponds to a maximum linear diameter of seven light-days, at least in the absence of highly relativistic effects.
