Scientific paper

The development of theoretical models concerning the global modulation of galactic cosmic rays in interplanetary space is briefly reviewed, with consideration given to: a model of the dipole solar magnetic field and possible particle scattering; the diffusion model; a model of corpuscular streams and interplanetary shock waves; isotropic diffusion with allowance for convection; the effect of the regular field on the diffusion characteristics; the role of hysteresis phenomena and diffusion anistropy; and the role of nonlinear effects. The prospects for the further development of global-modulation models are examined.
