Kinematic dynamo action due to a spatially periodic flow with regions of chaotic streamlines is investigated numerically, using a spectral method. Dynamos appear to be the rule rather than the exception, but in the most extensively investigated case they occur in 2 (or more) windows, for values of the magnetic Reynolds number Rm between 8 and 18, and for Rm 27 up to 200 or more. The structure of the magnetic field generated is complex, but appears correlated with the location of the choatic regions and with the stagnation points of the flow, in cases where these exist.
