A dynamical basis for Hubble's morphology classification of galaxies is given by combining the existing theory for normal spirals composed of two trailing waves with a similar theory for open spirals composed of one leading wave and one trailing wave. Thus the authors identify the two classes of spiral modes which form the prototypes for the two prongs of the tuning fork in the Hubble classification. In addition, they recognize the existence of transition spirals and bar-driven spirals as explained in a previous paper. The relevant physical regimes of the dynamical parameters are those for which modes are moderately growing, consistent with the hypothesis of Quasi-Stationary Spiral Structure.
