Recent observations indicate that Muong Nongtype tektites, which are highly structured, contain coesite and have a high silica content, may be primary tektite material. High-temperature experiments at atmospheric pressure show that, starting with material of this composition, vapor fractionation results in a residuum which follows the compositional trends of tektites in general. There is a significant difference between the tektite trends and those produced in experiments under reducing conditions.
