The atomic hydrogen properties of the barred spiral galaxies NGC 3992 and NGC 4731 have been observed at less than 30 arcsec resolution with the VLA telescope. The kinematics and gas density have been mapped with a velocity resolution of about 25 km/s. The observing and data reduction techniques are discussed in detail. The H I properties of NGC 3992 appear to change at the edge of the optical disk. This behavior may be the density and kinematic signatures of a truncated disk. A model incorporating a truncation is presented, in which about 50 percent of the mass must reside in a halo. Substantial noncircular phenomena are observed in the galaxy NGC 4731. These appear to be associated with the spiral structure of the galaxy. It is probable, also, that a kink exists in the fundamental plane of the galaxy. Four satellite systems were also found, three of which are associated with NGC 3992.
