The observations of hard X rays from Her X-1 reported by Iyengar et al. (1974) are considered, giving attention to a simple explanation for the observed characteristics. The explanation offered does not require the additional source of X rays postulated by Iyengar et al. It is pointed out that the absence or near absence of hard X-ray pulses from Her X-1 claimed by Iyengar et al. is as yet unconfirmed by any other group.
