A series of new observations, together with data from the literature, are used in a comparative study of ellipticity profiles for S0 and E galaxies. Attention is drawn to the similarity between the profiles of E objects flatter than E3, and those of S0 galaxies having similar apparent flattening. It is inferred that the elliptical galaxies have a two-component structure akin to the bulge-plus-disk structure of S0, although their flatter component is probably less bright, or less extended, or less thin, than a typical disk. Since the bulges of lenticular objects are probably oblate spheroids, the similarity may be taken as supporting oblateness in elliptical galaxies.
