For the six energetically lowest configurations of C0, radiative transition probabilities are calculated by two different methods. For the prominent interstellar C I multiplets longwards of 1260 Å, the authors find considerable differences against oscillator strengths derived from astronomical observations. They further investigate a radiative excitation process for the cometary C I λ1931 emission.
