The possibility of an identification of the recently discovered asteroid 2003 WY25 with the lost comet D/1819 W1 (Blanpain) is examined: the known orbits of the two objects, numerically integrated to identical epochs, are compared with the aid of 5 orbital identification criteria (D-criteria). The possibility of a link between the same asteroid and the Phoenicids and α Pegasids meteor showers is also studied, with particular reference to the 1956 outburst of the Phoenicids. The link between the asteroid and the comet seems very plausible, but the possible action of non-gravitational forces and the close approaches with Jupiter make it difficult to confirm definitively. A connection between the asteroid and the meteor showers is also possible, but cannot be confirmed due to a lack of precise observations, resulting in a poorly known orbit for the meteoroid streams.
