Since the discovery of the X-ray background in 1962, revealing its
origin has been a goal of X-ray astronomy. Here I introduce our 10 years
efforts to reveal the cosmological evolution of AGNs that constitute the
major part of the X-ray background. I will also introduce the growth
history of supermassive black holes suggested by our investigation.
