The SIRTF Legacy Science program provides a unique opportunity to create substantial, coherent science investigations of lasting value to the general astronomical community. The SIRTF Science Center (SSC) is developing tools to assist observers in crafting their Legacy Science proposals. The workhorse is SPOT, the SIRTF Planning Observations Tool. Astronomers will use SPOT to create Astronomical Observation Requests (AORs), the basic unit of SIRTF observing. The AORs specify the target and instrument combination for each observation. SPOT will include capabilities for automating the creation of similar AORs for large lists of targets that are expected in Legacy Science proposals. For planning observations, the tool IRSKY allows the observer to overlay the SIRTF field of view on the sky and returns background estimates. These capabilities will eventually be integrated into SPOT, providing a single tool for planning and specifying your SIRTF observations.
