A search for circumstellar lines in the spectrum of Mira from 3900 to 8700 A reveals only the sodium D lines and possibly the Ca II K line to be present. As suggested by Yamashita and Maehara (1978) the commonly seen circumstellar lines in red giants arising from various neutral species as well as Ca II and Sr II are weakened by ionization by the hot companion of Mira.
