The Liverpool Telescope (LT) is a high specification 2m fully robotic telescope in the final stages of construction by Telescope Technologies Limited. It is due to commence operations on La Palma in the Canaries this year. Its initial instumentation is a closed-cycle cooled CCD camera with a 2048 square EEV detector. The telescope will be housed in a fully-opening enclosure and be capable of rapid target acqusition. Science priorities for the telescope include observations of targets of opportunity, long-term monitoring of variable sources, and simultaneous observations with those at other wavelengths. The telescope will operate in part as a UK national research facility and 5% of the time has been reserved for educational programmes. The project is funded by the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council, the European Union, Liverpool JMU and a generous private donation.
