We present Chandra High Energy Transmission Grating (HETG) observations of NGC 1275, which is located near the center of the Perseus cluster of galaxies. The high angular resolution of Chandra allows us to separate the spectrum of the AGN, an 0.9 arcsecond point source, from the cluster. NGC 1275 appears to be located in a cavity blown in the intracluster medium (ICM) by its radio jets, confirming the ROSAT result. There is a detailed anticorrelation between the radio emission and the ICM X-ray emission on arcsecond scales. The radio jets have disrupted the distribution of gas in the cluster and must be an important source of energy to the ICM. We also discuss absorption of X-rays from the central AGN by the intracluster medium. This work was made possible in part by support from NASA contract NAS8-38249 (HETG) and SAO SV1-61010 (CXC).
