Variations in the intensities of the moderate (7250 A) and strong (8860 A, 9900 A) CH4 absorption bands on Jupiter's disk are analyzed in the framework of the simplest two-layer model for absorption-band formation. The variations are shown to indicate that the effective upper boundary of the visible cloud layer of Jupiter falls by about 15 to 20 km from the equator to high latitudes.
