High dispersion optical spectroscopy studies of five globular clusters have been carried out to provide upper limits for the ionized hydrogen mass within the core radius. Mass limits between 0.06 and 0.11 solar masses were obtained. Time-independent gas flow models are developed to explain the absence of ionized or neutral gas. It is shown that for a cluster of 100,000 solar masses the failure to detect gas is explicable in terms of cluster winds. Wind solutions were not obtained at low gas ejection velocities at 1,000,000 solar masses.
