Radio early-type emission line stars (ETELS) were first detected in a search for possible radio emission conducted by Purton et al. (1973). The total number of radio ETELS now known is approximately 40. Recent investigations indicate that the ETELS represent a relatively late stage in stellar evolution. Optical and radio properties of the ETELS are discussed and three groups of ETELS are considered, taking into account flat spectrum objects, 'plus 1' spectra, and 'plus 1' but with high frequency 'turnover'.
