A model is developed which assumes that Cen X-3 and Her X-1 are magnetized neutron stars that accrete matter from a normal companion. Cen X-3 is an extar that receives mass from the companion through radiation-driven stellar winds, while Her X-1 receives mass through Roche lobe overflow. X-ray observations of these two systems have been analyzed to test this model. Large-scale effects related to eclipse and accretion are considered, as well as small-scale effects related to pulsation.
